Mrs. Crawford's Wonderful World of Mathematics
As my mentor, Marvin Collins used to say... "Success doesn't come to you, you go to it," and "There is a brilliant child locked inside of every student." I believe this. Teachers, Parents, and students are one!
Welcome to an exciting year in Math! As many of you already know, Illinois uses the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). There are many exciting changes happening here at Mollison IB Middle School. We, at Mollison, are preparing our students for high school, college, and a global economy in many different ways. We will use the Envision Math textbook for the 6th and 7th-grade year. We will also use a host of supplemental math resources such as IXL, Ascendmath, Desmos, Flocabulary, and Khanacademy to complement the math curriculum. I will use Google slides, Nearpod, Padlet, and Bitmoji classrooms to make the lessons more engaging for each of my students.
In general, success in mathematics is essential for students facing rigorous coursework in college, career challenges, and global competitiveness. But success can no longer be determined solely by a students’ performance on a math assessment. Students need to develop the thinking and reasoning habits that will empower them to reach full potential in their lives at school and in their career paths. While only some students will pursue further math educations or careers in math and science, all students will benefit from learning to analyze problems independently and to solve them in different applications. They will need those abilities to lead successful lives as citizens and as leaders of the 21st century. Why? Because math is everywhere!
