FLASHBACK: 1968: "The day after the Chicago City Council voted to rename South Park Way after the recently assassinated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., summer students at Dunbar Vocational High School couldn't wait for the city to change the signs. Some aldermen had complained that Dr. King deserved more of a tribute. That came five years later in 1973 when Illinois became the first state to honor the civil-rights leader with a holiday. The sponsor of that bill was at the time, state rep. Harold Washington, who would go on to become Chicago's first Black mayor." He spoke at my high school graduation and gave me my first city job.
Happy Birthday Dr. King.
"Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a constant attitude." ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 1929-1968

Dear Mollison Family,
Some of my 6th graders, now 7th-grade students were afforded the opportunity to participate in a student leadership conference at the Holocaust Museum in Skokie in March 2020.
During that conference, my students were able to explore the museum and an exhibit on Ruth Bader Ginburg, the Notorious NBG. They learned so much about her and the law. Needless to say, they were impressed. I told them that they could be the next Supreme Court Justices!!! And they can!
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an amazing woman, full of spunk and grace and a quiet yet steely determination. She came of age in a time that was not supportive of women and the role they play in society. She fought discrimination at Harvard Law and when trying to find a job.
When she volunteered at the ACLU and saw the many challenges faced by women through their letters, it informed her life’s work. She used the law as a vehicle for change. And to reinforce the tenant that all people are created equal.
Her commitment to changing society was consistent and deliberate, and she argued case after case with the underlying theme that people should not be defined by their sex.
RBG was not just an attorney and judge, but a woman of huge heart, giant vision, and remarkable work ethic. She also became a cultural icon, gaining the attention and respect of so many through her humor, workouts, and fashion sense, using her collars to indicate her point of view for Supreme court decisions.
While we will continue to tell RBG’s story, we will always be inspired by her and will work to build on her legacy in the ongoing fight for human rights.
May her memory be a blessing.
It's math Magic........
Don't blink or you will miss the amazing magic of "Spellbinder" who dazzled our students during our math night in 2018 and 2019. He is a favorite at Mollison and will always be a part of our family. We are always happy to create such fantastic memories. Enjoy.
We were inspired by "Black Panther" to title our math night "Wakanda Math Night' in honor of the great world created on screen by Chad Bosewick and how that world exemplified a world we all wanted to see. We lost Mr. Boswick too soon but he was truly inspirational to every generation. He has fulfilled his purpose by touching and changing lives positively. The truth is, we can become anything. Passion, humility and never giving up on your dream will get you to the top of the mountain and you can live out your purpose.
